Ingredients
For the Cake:
2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
4 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 ½ cups whole milk
2 tsp cotton candy flavoring
Pink and blue food coloring
For the Cotton Candy Frosting:
1 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
4 cups powdered sugar
2-3 tbsp heavy cream
1 tsp cotton candy flavoring
Pink and blue food coloring
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Cake Batter
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 8-inch cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a separate large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in vanilla and cotton candy flavoring.
- Alternately add the dry ingredients and milk, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the batter into two bowls. Add pink food coloring to one and blue food coloring to the other.
- Pour both batters into the cake pans in a swirling pattern for a marbled effect.
Step 2: Bake the Cake
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Step 3: Make the Frosting
- Beat butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar.
- Add cotton candy flavoring and heavy cream, beating until fluffy.
- Divide frosting into two bowls, coloring one pink and one blue.
Step 4: Assemble & Decorate
- Spread a layer of frosting between the cake layers.
- Frost the outside, blending pink and blue for an ombré effect.
- Top with cotton candy and sprinkles for a magical finish!
Notes
Use Gel Food Coloring: It gives vibrant colors without changing the batter’s texture.
✔ Add Cotton Candy at the Last Minute: It melts quickly, so decorate right before serving.
✔ Chill the Cake Before Frosting: This prevents crumbs from mixing into the frosting.
✔ Experiment with Flavors: Try vanilla or strawberry in addition to cotton candy.
